Health Waivers
For certain visa subclasses, a Health Waiver may be available if you do not meet the health requirement assessed by a Medical Officer of the Commonwealth (MOC). This waiver can be exercised if granting the visa is unlikely to result in significant costs to the Australian community or prevent access to essential health care or community services.
Exercise of Health Waivers
If a Health Waiver is applicable to your visa subclass, your visa processing officer will contact you. You'll be asked to provide reasons why a waiver should be granted and to complete a formal submission template. Each case is assessed individually, considering factors such as mitigating potential costs, family circumstances, and compassionate grounds.
What Criteria Must Be Met to Receive a Health Waiver?
To be eligible for a Health Waiver, applicants must:
-
Be free of tuberculosis;
-
Be free from a disease or condition that poses a threat to public health in Australia or is a danger to the Australian community;
-
Be free from a disease or condition that would likely require health care or community services, meet the criteria for community service provision, incur significant costs to the Australian community in health care or community services, or prejudice the access of Australian citizens or permanent residents to health care or community services.
